About Darner media
Who is Darner media?
Darner media is owned and operated by W. Thomas Leroux, and I have been exploring the "online world" since when I got my first modem - a clunky 110 baud modem in the mid-1980s, and I knew I was hooked, and have been online in one form or another ever since, and helping others online in one form or another.
I have been working with video since 1996 and building web sites since 1999, and greatly enjoy the creative diversity they provide me. Prior to starting this business, I was half of the partnership Technomages (doing pretty much the same thing as I do now), and before that, I was manager of a computer store and small ISP.
Shortly after becoming a "switcher" to Macs, I became one of the founding members of the Bytown Mac Users Group of Ottawa, whose mission is to help all Mac users to learn to use their computers more effectively in a fun and social environment.
Where did the name Darner media come from?
Coming up with a new name for my business was important to me - I wanted to show that the business had changed, and reflect my personality a bit better. I spent a good portion of my annual vacation working it out, when one day, while hiking in Algonquin Provincial Park, a dragonfly landed on me when I was at Cloud Lake on the Centennial Ridges Trail, having decided I was a reasonable place to have a picnic on.
The dragonfly contentedly ate its prey while I watched and slowly maneuvered to get a photo, finding the whole thing absolutely fascinating. When I returned home, I started my research to find out what it was - a Variable Darner (Aeshna interrupta), providing me with the basis for the name.
